History

On August 16, 1978, the church was chartered by the State of Ohio under the name "Reeb Hosack Community Baptist Church", taking its name from the neighborhood area in which it is situated.  The church was briefly recognized as a mission.  On Sunday, January 7, 1979, Pastor E. A. Parham (deceased) of the Trinity Baptist Church, officiated a Pastor's Council which carried out the ecclesiastical services that gave Reeb Hosack "official" church status.

Rev. Stephen McCormick was  appointed interim Pastor on April 22, 1979 and guided us through the beginning year.  He was assisted in pulpit duties by Reverends Otis Crowder, Samuel Jackson and Charles Smith.

On November 2, 1979, Rev. Harold Hopkins of Akron, OH was called to become the first Pastor and was installed on January 13, 1980.  He and First Lady Audrey Hopkins saw many changes during their sixteen years of service to the church.

On December 4, 1980, the mortgage debt on the church was "paid in full".  We became affiliates of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, the Eastern Union Missionary Baptist Association, and the Lott Carey Convention.

After the retirement of Pastor Hopkins, Rev. Aaron Wheeler, Sr., was called as the second Pastor of Reeb Hosack.  Pastor Wheeler and First Lady Barbara Wheeler, brought a new level of energy to the church along with their children, Monique, Aaron Jr., Analyn and Joshua.  In November of 1997, Pastor Wheeler anounced that he had been called to establish a new church.

During our time without a shepherd the Rev. Weymon E. Dozier, Associate Minister at Trinity Baptist Church served as Interim Pastor.

In October of 1998, Rev. Kevin S. Hairston was called as the third Pastor of Reeb Hosack.  Pastor Hairston and First Lady Mia Hairston, officially began their ministry with Reeb Hosack on November 8, 1998.  Pastor Hairston exhibited a keen sense of organization and demonstrated an insight on the need to teach and preach to the relativity of listeners' personal experiences.  In February 2000, Pastor Hariston submitted a letter of resignation.

The Deacon Ministry led the church to prayerful consider extending a call to Rev. John S. Little, whom the church was familiar with during the previous pastoral search.  Following a meeting with the congregation Rev. Little accepted the call to become the fourth Pastor of Reeb Hosack.  On April 9, 2000, Pastor Little along with First Lady LaDonna and son JeVon, began his pastorate.  On Sunday, June 18, 2000, Pastor Little was installed and presented the church with the visionary theme "Claiming Our Canaan" [Submission-Saturation-Success] (Joshua 1:7-8).

Under Pastor Little's pastorate the church continues to grow and prosper.  Pastor Little's vision has lead the church to accomplish the following:

  • $250,000 Building expansion - education wing, administrative offices, restrooms, handicap lift
  • Implemented church growth 5 year vision plan
