Genesis 14:9-14

Is Anything Too Hard For The Lord?

READ GENESIS 1:14-19

"Is anything too hard for the Lord?" In the light of Genesis 1:1, this seems like an absurd question. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

In five verses of just over 100 words, we have the answer to the question that NASA and dozens of astronomical societies are spending billions of dollars to find: How did our universe come into existence? "And God said," and the sun was made – a mass of burning gasses that still defies a scientific explanation. (There is one, because all of God’s creation operates according to the laws He designed. It is just that until now, scientists have been unable to discover it.)

"And God said," and the moon began its monthly circuit of earth. The origin of the moon is also a puzzle to the scientist. He has mapped it, walked on it, analyzed the rocks brought back by the astronauts, and, in the words of Robin Canup, an astrophysicist who has been working on the problem, "Our closest celestial neighbor remains a mystery in many ways."

"And God said," and the stars began to twinkle in the night sky. No single library could house all the books that have been written about man’s studies of the stars. Not millions of stars, or even billions of stars, but stars literally without number. And big? In the constellation Auriga is a star with a volume 27 billion times greater than our sun. Yet, their creation is described in just FIVE WORDS – "He made the stars also." No elaborate explanations. Just a simple, brief declaration, as if to say, "Oh, by the way, He made the stars, too."

"Is anything too hard for the Lord?" Jeremiah pondered the question. He, too, turned to Genesis 1:1 for the answer.

READ JEREMIAH 32:17 - "Ah Lord GOD! Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for Thee."

Is anything too hard for the Lord? There is NOTHING too hard for God. If he can put the rings around Saturn and swirl a hundred million stars into the Milky Way, then He can certainly handle whatever lies ahead in my life and yours.  Let’s take a look at these simple thoughts about God’s ability.

I.          God Never Made A Promise He Couldn’t Keep

A.         A promise is:

1.         "A legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to EXPECT or CLAIM the performance or forbearance of a specified act."

2.         When God makes a promise, we can expect Him to do, or refrain from doing certain things.

B.         Promises God has made that we can claim

1.         His Presence – I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.

2.         His Peace - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give     unto you… Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

3.         His Providence – All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

4.         His Wisdom – If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

5.         His cleansing – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us…

"Is any thing too hard for the Lord?"        "There is nothing too hard for thee."

II.        God Never Encountered A Problem He Couldn’t Solve

Someone has said, When God is going to do something wonderful, He starts with a difficulty. When God is going to do something very wonderful and miraculous, He starts with an impossibility.

A.         Consider some of the problems God has solved

1.        When He needed to get 2 million Jews away from the pursuing Egyptians, He parted the Red Sea.

2.         When He needed to quench their thirst in the barren desert, He brought forth water from the rock.

3.         When He needed to feed them, He sent them manna.

4.         When He needed to convince a nation that Baal was a hoax and He was real, He sent fire from heaven.

5.         When He needed a Savior, He created a baby in the virgin womb of Mary.

"Is any thing too hard for the Lord?"   "There is nothing too hard for thee."

B.         God specializes in solving the "impossible" circumstances of our  lives

1.         Put your problem into the question: Is _____ too hard for the Lord?

a.            Finances

b.            Family

c.            Future

2.         Our greatest problem is that we resist God’s attempt to solve our problems!

a.         We worry about it.

b.         We try to work it out ourselves.

c.         God tells us to leave it with Him. "Cast all your…"

When we come to our wit’s end. When we have exhausted all our resources, remember:

"Is any thing too hard for the Lord?"        "There is nothing too hard for thee."

III.       God Never Saw A Place Where The Gospel Couldn’t Be Sent

A.        There is no such thing as a "closed field" with God

For over a quarter of a century, Eastern Europe was "closed" to Western missionaries. Behind the iron curtain, believers were severely persecuted and atheism was taught in every school. Yet, when the iron curtain fell, we learned that people had continued to be reached for Christ in spite of all that had been done.

We sometimes here people talk about China as a closed field. However, don’t tell that to our missionaries Fred Davis and Mike Tester. Yes, they live in Canada – reaching Chinese speaking people. They are winning Chinese nationals to the Lord and "teaching them all things" in obedience to the Great Commission. And some of them are returning to their homes and sharing the Gospel to their friends and family living behind the Bamboo Curtain.

People refer to our world as "The Shrinking Planet" because so many people are leaving their native homes to live in other countries. Because of this, missionaries are able to evangelize Muslims in Europe, a practice unlawful in many Muslim countries. Knock on the doors of our tiny city, and you will have the opportunity to witness to people from Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. It almost seems that since we have not done obeyed the Great Commission, "Going into all the world and preaching the Gospel to every creature," that God is bringing the world to us.

B.        There are no unreachable people, only unreached people.

1.         We may not have a lot to give, but let us give what we have to reach the multitudes.

2.         There may be places we cannot go, but let us go where we can to share the Gospel with others.

The Great Commission is still God’s method of evangelizing the world. Personal Evangelism is still His method for building the church.

CONCLUSION:

"Is any thing too hard for the Lord?"               "There is nothing too hard for thee."

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?

Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?

God specializes in things thought impossible?

He does the things others cannot do.
